New school building location Waalhaven
From school year 2012-2013 the new school building of STC-Group at location Waalhaven in Rotterdam is in use. The location houses the pre-vocational and secondary vocational studies of the Shipping and Transport College for the sectors Ports, Road Transport and Logistics, and Rhine and Inland Shipping.
The new port-trade-school consists of 7,500 square meters. the new building has five floors and possess all modern facilities to educate and prepare students for their future profession in the harbor or transport sector. The classrooms, ICT rooms and practical facilities are newly furnished. Special practical training facilities include for instance the Composites Lab for ship and yacht building students, the Logistics Centre with overhead crane and the Experience Centre where students can experience to drive a truck, sail a ship and load and unload a container while sitting in a port crane.
When the keys of the new school building were transferred, Erik Hietbrink, chairman of the board, referred to the history of port education in Rotterdam: “Professor Rutten, the founder of the first port-trade-school, which was founded in 1959, would have been proud of what this new school building. The port needs now and in the future, many skilled workers and STC-Group is able to meet that demand with this new school location and its state of the art facilities.”
